I think most of us are familiar with the song “Monster Mash”, by Bobby “Boris” Pickett (see a video here). I’ve always loved this tune, just a fun crazy song to celebrate Halloween. That song was something of an inspiration for me to make this drawing, along with the things swirling in my head. That was sometime in October of 2019.

I thought it would be a good way to practice drawing some unattached body parts, especially since I do better when I just bring it straight outta my head, as opposed to a “study” of something. The severed thumb and fingers came out a little rough, and are missing some details, along with the nondescript left side of a torso. But we only grow when we challenge ourselves, right?

Overall I was happy with the way it turned out. I like to go back and look at my older drawings because they make me laugh, and I get a chance to see improvement in the art. I also like taking subjects that are considered macabre, crazy or worse, and putting a happier spin to it. The garish colors also help to brighten things up and give it a whimsical feel.

“Season of the Witch” by Donovan (listen here) is another great song that is particularly enjoyable to listen to during the Scary Season, along with Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell On You”(listen here).

I’m positive I’ve missed a whole bunch of great Halloween songs. So if you think of any that you want to share, go ahead and leave a comment down below. And you can also let me know if you have a special favorite scary song.

Here's a short video featuring "Coffin Full of Blues".
